A mistake many new online business people make is how committed they are to making money on the internet. The belief that by simply putting up a web site, or joining an affiliate program, will generate thousands of dollars a month is rampant. Some of this is misrepresentation by the internet, and some is by the belief that an internet business is not the same as a 'regular' business.
Creating a business online is no different that any other business, except you can do it at home. Many people have heard the adage, "what are the three most important things in business?". The answer being: 1) location, 2) location, 3) location.
The internet is no different. Your location on the internet is important to the success of your business.
The first day you started your website, you have the worst location on the search engines. Your store is located in the middle of the Mojave Desert and the only customers you are getting are usually lost and not interested in buying. But, if you are willing you can change this. Unlike a physical store front, you have the ability to move your 'store' anywhere you want it, all it will take is commitment.
If you owned a 'real' store and simply stood across the street watching it, you would have no expectation of it earning money. You need to make sure you have a good product or service, advertise, and promote. If something didn't work you would evaluate it and make changes to try and ensure your business grew and prospered. You would probably spend countless hours striving to make it a success and never question the validity of that choice.
Why then do people trying to make money on the internet not do the same thing?
There is no difference. Business IS business. When you start a business it takes time and hard work to be successful. There has to be a valid product or service, advertising is essential to success, and re-evaluating what you are doing is a constant process. Each and every day the business needs to be worked on, if you 'stand across the street' and just watch you will have absolutely no growth.
There are a ton of different articles and programs that discuss how to be successful, but without commitment your business will stay in the middle of the internet desert. It is your choice because it is your business.
